Unable To Print to Epson Dot Matrix Printers After Windows Updates

November 16, 2017

I received a call from some colleagues today claiming that their Epson Dot Matrix printers suddenly unable to print. Went down to troubleshoot, tried uninstall and reinstall printer driver, change printer port, replace printer cable and so on but still unable to print. Ends up, tried install an older version driver but some work and some don't ! And finally, did a system restore by selecting a restore point before the last Windows Update and bingo ! All back to normal. So, confirmed something wrong with the last Microsoft Update pushed via WSUS.

Printers that are not working after the updates are:
Epson LQ-300
Epson LQ-300+ II
Epson LQ2180
Epson LQ2190

Windows Updates have been issued for Windows 7, 8 and 10 and they are all having the same issue.

November 21, 2017—KB4055038
This update addresses an issue that prevents some Epson SIDM (Dot Matrix) and TM (POS) printers from printing on x86-based and x64-based systems.
